Speaker Bio:


Laura Edsberg, PhD: Dr. Laura Edsberg is Professor of Natural Sciences and Director of the Center for Wound Healing Research at Daemen College in Amherst, New York. Dr. Edsberg is a past-President of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) and she co-chaired the 2016 NPIAP Staging Task Force. She was awarded the Kosiak Award for her work in the field of pressure injuries. She has written numerous articles and chapters about the microstructural and mechanical properties of pressure injury tissue. Dr. Edsberg’s research is focused on the proteome of healing and non-healing wounds and identifying biomarkers associated with healing in wounds.

Mikel Gray, PhD, FNP, PNP, CUNP, CCCN, FAANP, FAAN: Mikel Gray is Professor and Nurse Practitioner with the Department of Urology (School of Medicine) and Department of Acute & Specialty Care (School of Nursing) at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He is Editor-in Chief of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing. He has authored or co-edited 3 books and authored more than 50 chapters and 250 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics related to neurologic urology and urodynamic testing, urologic nursing, wound, ostomy and continence nursing, and evidence-based practice. A fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Dr. Gray is past president of both the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates and the Certification Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates. He has received awards for contributions to Urologic and WOC nursing respectively.

Webinar Description: 

Moisture management is an important part of pressure injury prevention. This webinar will explore the relationship between skin integrity and various moisture sources, duration of exposure and external forces.

Objectives:

  1. Delineate the role of one or multiple forms of moisture on PI development
  2. Delineate the role of chemical and physical/mechanical moisture on PI development
