The National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) is interested in understanding the ability for companies, manufacturers and distributors to provide institutions with support surfaces and skin and wound care products during surges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, we are also interested in the clinician’s or individual employed by a healthcare institution’s perspective in receiving the necessary support surfaces and skin and wound care products.
NPIAP is a non-profit organization that is the primary resource for CMS and institutions for their pressure injury prevention policy/protocols. Care for patients with COVID-19 requires lengthy prone positioning and is often associated with complications that can contribute to tissue breakdown. These complications make patients at high risk for pressure injuries requiring management through the use of support surfaces and skin and wound care products.
The below surveys are all anonymous. No one is obliged to participate. All responses remain confidential and the information gathered will enable NPIAP to gain insight into this issue based on your experiences so we can inform clinicians and others about adjustments that may be required in pressure injury prevention management particularly in times of pandemics or natural disasters.

Survey #1 – Support Surfaces
This is a survey regarding your experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic surges with regard to support surfaces (mattresses, overlays, frames, integrated frames/mattresses, cushions, stretchers, or OR Table Pads) use. We are trying to gain a better understanding of how the COVID-19 pandemic affected your company’s ability to meet supply and demand of your support surface products.
This is an anonymous survey that we anticipate will take 5 to 7 minutes to complete. All responses remain confidential and the information gathered will enable NPIAP to investigate possible resources they can provide to you and your customers with any future pandemic or natural disaster situations.
