Prophylactic Dressing Standards Initiative (PDSI)
Prophylactic Dressing Standards Initiative (PDSI)

The Prophylactic Dressing Standards Initiative (PDSI) is a collaborative effort led by the NPIAP and EPUAP, involving clinicians, researchers, and manufacturers, to establish international standards for evaluating dressings used in the prevention of pressure injuries. Launched in 2021, the initiative addresses the lack of validated methods for assessing the performance of prophylactic dressings, focusing on key characteristics such as cushioning, thermal performance, moisture management, and adhesiveness. With work organized into specialized groups, PDSI aims to complete initial test methods, paving the way for global standards that improve clinical decision-making, product development, and reimbursement practices.

Our article “The vision and scope of the prophylactic dressing standard initiative of the EPUAP and NPIAP” article was published in the International Wound Journal, please see the PDF file here and the link to the International Wound Journal website: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/iwj.13859
