NPIAP Welcomes the 2025 Board of Directors

The National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel, Inc. (NPIAP) is delighted to introduce our newly elected Board of Directors.

2025-2026 President David Brienza, PhD

Dr. Brienza is a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology and serves as Associate Dean for Technology and Innovation at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia. His research focuses on pressure injury prevention, with a specialization in developing, evaluating, and conducting clinical studies on support surfaces. Alongside his colleagues, he has conducted influential research on the effectiveness of seat cushions and mattresses in preventing pressure injuries. Additionally, he works on developing and evaluating assistive technology for mobility and aging in place. He teaches courses on product design, healthcare ethics, and pressure injury science and is actively involved in legal matters related to intellectual property and personal injury concerning wheelchairs and pressure injuries.
